working on art full time is a lot harder than i thought it would be. i thought that i would have a bunch of free time and lots of energy to work on my own projects... that's not the case. anyhow, big news to share anyhow: first second books is going to be the publisher of americus! mk and i signed out contracts last week making it official!

the only bad news? it most likely won't be out until 2012.

april 26th, 2009 a.d.

i finally updated a few new illustrations in the art section. there were some other ones that i also posted over on the brownpaperbag site.

haven't updated here or on the brownpaperbag site for awhile, but i'm hoping to remedy that soon. the willamette week, a local weekly newspaper, has been sending some work my way, so when i get around to it, i'll put some of that up in the art section. i took a couple of months of from work, so i should have more time to be doing personal projects. stay tuned, though not too frequently, because you might get disappointed.

happy new year! things are off to a great start as i just finished some work for hollywood entertainment & game crazy, which you can see in the art section. if you're interested, i'm posting the process behind the illustrations and some notes over at the brownpaperbag site.

i would also like to give a shout out to 2008. it was a very, very good year to me. i got to travel a bunch [the galapagos and new york city!], mk and i were nominated for an ignatz award for our work on americus [best story], i was published by fantagraphics [BEASTS! Book Two] and image comics [Popgun Volume 2], and life is generally really awesome and filled with lots and lots of people that i love.

anyhow, here's to 2009!

and here's some upcoming things to look out for:

- there's a BEASTS! show at giant robot in san francisco starting january 17th. i won't be able to make it to this one, but it looks like it's going to be super rad.

- i saw you... should be coming out in february. i only have a two page story in it, but there's lots and lots of other great cartoonists in there.
