Neal Barton just wants to read in peace. Unluckily for him, some local Christian activists are trying to get his favorite fantasy series banned from the Americus public library on grounds of immoral content and heresy. Something has to be done, and it looks like quiet, shy Neal is going to have to do it. With youth services librarian Charlotte Murphy at his back, Neal finds himself leading the charge to defend the mega-bestselling fantasy series that makes his life worth living.

Americus is a funny, gripping, and relatable tale of life and local politics in middle America.

publisher: First Second Books

Americus is my first graphic novel. It was written by MK Reed and I did the illustration. It was published in Fall 2011 by First Second Books. Since then it’s been picked as an ABC New Voices 2011 title, was nominated by the YALSA as a 2012 Best Graphic Novel for Teens, was a Fall 2011 Junior Library Guild Premier Selection, and won the 2012 NAIBA Carla Cohen Free Speech Award, the first graphic novel to do so.

Below are some excerpts and galleries of promotional and incidental art that I created for the project.

The following gallery is of promotional and incidental art I did for Americus. This included the endpages, cover, website design and promotional posters and prints.
